Bodywork

Traditional Nuad Bo-Rarn Thai massage uses compression and point pressure along with a unique formula of diverse stretching movements. This opens the joints and balances all the major muscle groups of the body. The patterns of gentle rhythmic movements ease the recipient into a deeply relaxed state and leave them feeling energized, balanced and help them become more flexible than they thought possible! It is a dynamic experience for body and spirit. The form is practiced without the use of oils and the client remains fully clothed.

Table Thai image Table Thai is adapted from the traditional form as working on a floor mat may not be comfortable for some or the setting not available. Body mechanics and posture are reconfigured to accommodate European and Western approaches, whilst maintaining maximum efficiency in the form.

Training

Programs are offered at Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced levels in both forms. Higher level courses broaden theory and practice and allow extension of session times up to the traditional three hour form. For more information, contact Jessica.

Background of Thai Massage

Nuad Bo-Rarn, is one of the four major branches of the 2500 year old medical system of ancient Siam, now Thailand. (The other three are herbal medicine, nutritional diet, and ceremonial-spiritual practices.) Evolved within the Theravada Buddhist culture, Nuad Bo-Rarn is a form of bodywork traditionally practiced in the monasteries, or Wats, to assist the monks with their integrated practice of awareness in body-mind-spirit.

Thai Massage is based on ten major (72,000 total) sen lines – meridians or energy pathways, which correlate with the acupuncture meridian of Chinese medicine and the nadis of Indian Ayurvedic medicine. In essence, combining acupressure and yoga, Thai massage involves peripheral stimulation as a means to access and stimulate deeper organ functions. Accepting the premise that good health depends on a balanced flow of energies throughout the body, Thai massage helps to remove blockages and improve vitality. It is suited to chronic injuries and helps to build a high level of fitness.
